The Value Adjustment Board in and for Bay County Florida is currently seeking individuals interested in serving as Special Magistrates to the 2010 Value Adjustment Board. Special Magistrates are appointed for the purpose of taking testimony and making recommendations to the Board. Special Magistrates cannot be elected or appointed officials or employees of the county. Employees and elected or appointed officials of a taxing jurisdiction or of the state may not serve as Special Magistrates. A Special Magistrate appointed to hear issues of exemptions and classifications shall be a licensed attorney in private practice and a member of the Florida Bar with no less than 5 years’ experience in real property valuation and meet the requirements of Section 194.015 F.S. A Special Magistrate appointed to hear issues regarding valuation of real estate shall be a state certified real estate appraiser with not less than 5 years’ experience in real property valuation and meet the requirements of Section 194.035 F.S and Section 12D-9.010 FAC. During term of service, the Special Magistrate cannot represent any party before the Board. A Special Magistrate appointed to hear issues regarding valuation of tangible personal property must have at least 5 years’ experience in tangible personal property valuation and shall be a designated member of a nationally recognized appraiser's organization. During term of service, the Special Magistrate cannot represent any party before the Board. A Special Magistrate need not be a resident of the county for appointment. If required by law, Special Magistrates shall obtain the Department of Revenue training certificate for Special Magistrates and provide verification of such qualifications and training to the Clerk of the Board. All interested parties must ensure they have taken and received a certificate for the most current training available from DOR.
